Basic Accounting For LMTs 1/2018 TBD

 Course Description:

This 6 hour class will cover bookkeeping and record keeping for self-employed therapists and technicians.  Included will be specific requirements for income tax reporting and information on new tax law regulations.  Participants will learn how to account for the usual deductions (i.e. auto, education, supplies, etc) and other “highly audited” but fully allowable deductions (i.e. home office, travel, etc). The course will include not only the concepts for what is needed for income tax purposes but also other requirements IRS imposes.

Objectives:

The student will be able to understand:

  • How to keep day-to-day records
  • The tax law as it applies to a small business

Evaluation Procedures:

The student will be able to competently demonstrate:

  • Intent & documentation to comply with IRS guidelines
  • Basic Record keeping requirements

Margo Bowman has been a practicing accountant for over 50 years, specializing in small business taxation and Record Keeping. She is a licensed tax consultant (LTC) in Oregon and has earned the enrolled agent (EA) designation which allows her to practice before the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of her client base.

In addition to taxation and accounting credentials, Margo is also a licensed massage therapist (LMT) in Oregon, giving her a unique insight into the needs of the massage therapy profession. She has been asked to speak nationally on small business taxation and the record keeping requirements it imposes.

Margo graduated from Oregon School of Massage in 1990 and has taught a tax/record keeping class there each year since. Her massage practice has been on a volunteer basis with services provided to hospice, MS and injury patients at no charge. She studied massage in Russia in 1992 and frequently returns to that country as part of a university project.

Structural Release of the Chest 9/10/2017

These courses will teach the theory and techniques for structural realignment of the body. The Chest course is beneficial for everyone with forward head and internal rotation shoulder posture. Every client and massage therapist needs to receive this session. The intent of the treatments is to balance the body into alignment with its environment, freeing the energy flow that will enhance the body’s physiological and psychological function. During these workshops: We will review the anatomical structure of the areas being taught, learn structural assessment for the areas, learn the hands-on techniques and give and receive a two-hour session. You will be able to immediately integrate the information learned in these courses into your current practice and the courses may be taken in any order.

Gary Schwander, LMP is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork as a continuing education provider #294961. Gary has been practicing massage therapy since 1989 and teaching massage courses since 1992. Gary has served as a member of the AMTA National Sports Massage Education Council, as an Athletes’ Medical Services Massage Therapist during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and as a member of the 2002 Winter Olympics Sports Massage Team.
